What are the qualities of a good salsa dancer?:
Eye contact and smile are a must. It's all about the connection and enjoying one another. Selfish dancers suck. It's important to be aware and considerate of your partner's level of dance. No one was born dancing On2, not even Eddie Torres and he invented it!
Salsa dancing is best:

Salsa Views:
Why Salsa?:
Its in my blood.
How long have you been dancing salsa and what keeps you coming back for more?:
Since I was 4. My parents used to play salsa on saturday nights at home and call me down from my room when I was sleeping so I can dance in front of them as they cheered me on. There I was, in my little pj's, getting down to the likes of Tito Puente, Charlie Palmieri, and Machito as a pre-schooler. The music is the key to it all..I have loved and learned about the music, its creators from palladium-era to present as well as the history of the dance and I respect the hell out of both.
In addition to learning salsa, what else have you gained from the experience?:
Great friends and good times. Also a my Jersey mambo family that can hang wit the best of them. We are mambo's best kept secret! Love my SFON2 peeps!
What are the salsa No-No's when dancing with a partner?:
Bad Hygiene! Lack of eye contact, and attempting things with your partner that you well know they are not able to do. It's one thing to challenge your partner, another to make them look foolish on the dance floor.
If you could improve upon one thing in the New York Salsa scene, what would it be?:
Cliques. Jimmy Anton's is split into sections by level of dance. Poo-poo on that. A lot of males will at times not ask a female of my physical stature to dance for whatever reason, not realizing that there are many thick and heavy dancers that can out-dance, out-style and out-spin our thinner counterparts.
What advice would you give someone just starting out in salsa?:
Work on your fundamentals always. Timing and technique are important, and so is your personal touch on your dance that will make you unique on the dance floor. Practice really does make perfect. Many people want to speed through levels of dance so they can say they are at a level. Take your time and really establish a good foundation or it will come back to haunt you in the long run. It's better to be a good basic dancer than a sloppy intermediate or advanced dancer.
