Salsa-licious:

What are the qualities of a good salsa dancer?:
Enjoyment of the dance no matter what your level and a connection with your partner.
Salsa dancing is best:
at a social
The best salsa dancing is when:
You're in the ZONE!!! All your patterns come back to you, from basic to that complicated arm twister that continues into a double dip, reverse flip and ends up with both of you doing a split! You know what I'm talking about. The ZONE in salsa, I love that place!

Salsa Views:

Why Salsa?:
Just picked a new hobby at random. It could have been rock climbing or photography, or anything else but once I walked into the studio I felt like I was home.
How long have you been dancing salsa and what keeps you coming back for more?:
Been dancing for about three years. I keep coming back because, as any salsa dancer will tell you, you become addicted. You're always trying to learn a new pattern and the social aspect of salsa is amazing.
In addition to learning salsa, what else have you gained from the experience?:
I have met many people becasue of it and some I consider close friends now.
My most embarrassing salsa moment was:
At the Seaport, I put a girl into a cross body lead with an inside turn followed by a drop hands. I had my back to her and had my hand out behind me looking all cool and did not feel her hand in mine. I turned around just in time to see her in mid-air, arms and legs flailing, as she lands on her butt on those Seaport wooden boards!
What are the salsa No-No's when dancing with a partner?:
I see guys trying to do a "sensuous salsa" and caressing a partner's face. I know of no teacher on the scene that teaches that. Where do they get that crap from?
If you could improve upon one thing in the New York Salsa scene, what would it be?:
How can I improve it? MANDATORY USE OF DEODORANT!!! 'Nuff said.
What advice would you give someone just starting out in salsa?:
Keep going! Don't give up! Hang in there! One day, sooner than you think, you will be in class and it will click. You'll say to yourself, "Holy $#!T!!! I'm dancing!!!" and your dance life will open up in a beautiful way. Plus I always say, if I can learn how to dance, anyone can learn how to dance.
