Salsa Views:

Why Salsa?:
Because it is the happiest, sexiest, most beautiful music. If only I spoke Spanish...
How long have you been dancing salsa and what keeps you coming back for more?:
6 years...I keep trying to perfect my technique and find a good partner. And nothing makes me feel better than a night of dancing.
In addition to learning salsa, what else have you gained from the experience?:
I've learned so much about partnering, and why some men should definitely bring 3 extra shirts to the party.
My most embarrassing salsa moment was:
at Dance Sport NY where I could not get in the "on 2" groove with the older men dancers there.
What are the salsa No-No's when dancing with a partner?:
Don't try to make a woman do a series of triples when she's obviously struggling with a double. Find out what your partner can do, and then lead her into it beautifully. That's what makes YOU look good, too.
If you could improve upon one thing in the New York Salsa scene, what would it be?:
Cut out the snobbery and BS around dancing on 1 or 2. Just dance to the music and your partner the best way you can, and the rest will take care of itself.
What advice would you give someone just starting out in salsa?:
Don't take it personally when the good dancers won't dance with you. Keep trying. Enjoy doing the best you can and surprise yourself by dancing even more beautifully next time.
