About Me:

Loving, compassionate, sensitive, expressive, determined, and persistant young lady. Grew up loving, learning, and enjoying music since my parents were ballroom dancers back in their days. After 12 years of being disconnected to my passion of dancing, I have returned. This time for good. Dancing and music has been my sword towards expressing through moves the unspoken and hidden words, which is difficult for me to express. I love and admire the hard work and dedication of those professional dancers who take out the time to teach others. I owe it to a special someone who encouraged me to enroll in a dance school. I thank him so much because I see dancing from a different lens. I admire observing others perform and express their inner hidden feelings. We all have potential, but it's the unique quality, which demonstrates the inner thought and expression.

Salsa Views:

Why Salsa?:
I learned to dance from watching my parents dance mambo. Coming from a diverse culture I always loved to listen to Celia Cruz, Fania Stars, Tito Puente..I loved the beat and listening to the different sounds.
How long have you been dancing salsa and what keeps you coming back for more?:
Well, I learned from my brother since I was about 6 years-old. I learned from watching and shadowing him. I did it for fun and well being the middle girl of two brother's. I figured that if I practiced someday I could group up and dance my life away. I stopped dancing completely when my father passed in '96. It wasn't until a friend of mine encouraged me to enroll in a dance school. So I have been attending this Dance School since January. At first it was so frustrating since I had such a challenging time with learning the basic again. I was frustrated, but now. I can't stop since I make sure that I practice everyday when I learn a new routine. What keeps me coming back for more is that this is my way of expressing my feelings.
In addition to learning salsa, what else have you gained from the experience?:
To have more confident in my efforts and capabilities. It has allowed me to keep my head up at a neutral level. I smile more than usual since I am living out my passion.
My most embarrassing salsa moment was:
The first time I took the class and realized that I needed help ASAP. I felt that people were watching and critizinng me. I felt like a clutz.
What are the salsa No-No's when dancing with a partner?:
Women do not lead men, avoiding eye contact, making unpleasant facial expressions to discourage your partner, arguing with a partner, telling your partner that he does not know how to dance, being disrespectful to your partner.
If you could improve upon one thing in the New York Salsa scene, what would it be?:
n/a
What advice would you give someone just starting out in salsa?:
Be patient; take a deep breath; do not panic or get frustrated; PRACTICE..PRACTICE..PRACTICE..Ask your instructor to tell you the name(s) of the steps; look at the instructor(s) feet; try to shadow your instructor; take pics or record some of the steps so you can practice at home; ask questions if you are having problems with a step; ask for help; exchange numbers with classmates; get together with other classmates to review and practice learned steps.
