What are the qualities of a good salsa dancer?:

Salsa dancing is best:
in a night club
The top three salsa songs that I must dance to, no matter what are?:
Gulliver, Severa and Mi Tumbao
The best salsa dancing is when:
There is a synergistic flow between the band and the dancers that cannot be taught in a class. It is a magical feeling that is felt by both musicians and the dancers. It is a point in which there is no "on 2" or "on 1" or shines or routines. Is is an exhilaration that takes over the body while the feet begin to remember steps centuries old that connect, like a magnet, with the groove of the band. At that moment, there is a true "high" that can never be experienced in a formal, structured environment. Que viva la musica
I feel in love with:
the dance itself
Salsa dancing is best with:
a reliable partner
Salsa Views:
Why Salsa?:
Salsa is a combination of many musical genres of Latin American and Caribbean music. It is one of the most exciting musics with elements from jazz to r&b to classical to rock to reggaeton. It is the spice of musical life.
In addition to learning salsa, what else have you gained from the experience?:
Too much to put in this little box. Check out my writings on my blog at www.myspace.com/zondelbarriony and on our webpage @ www.zondelbarrio.com
What are the salsa No-No's when dancing with a partner?:
Oh please, give me a break
If you could improve upon one thing in the New York Salsa scene, what would it be?:
That folks should learn to respect other people's space, not show off so much w/routine steps and learn to enjoy and groove to live music.
What advice would you give someone just starting out in salsa?:
Listen to the music. That's the first thing. Also learn what clave is, our metronomic guide to dancing correctly. It doesn't matter if you dance on 2 or on 1 if you're dancing off clave and just dancing to show off.
